New Jersey Democratic Representative Andy Kim has declared his candidacy for the Senate seat currently held by Senator Bob Menendez, who is facing indictment and calls for his resignation.

Rep. Andy Kim's decision to run against Sen. Menendez comes in the wake of Menendez's indictment on corruption-related charges and his refusal to step down from his Senate position.

In a statement posted on social media, Kim stated, "NJ deserves better. We cannot jeopardize the Senate or compromise our integrity." Kim is known for his dedication to his constituents.

Andy Kim has been serving as the Representative for New Jersey's 3rd Congressional District since 2019. He secured re-election last year with a decisive victory, winning by over 10 percentage points.

Kim gained national attention following the events of January 6, 2021, when he was photographed cleaning up the debris and trash left at the Capitol after the insurrection. His dedication to duty and unity was widely praised.

Senator Bob Menendez and his wife, Nadine Arslanian Menendez, were recently charged with corruption-related offenses, including accepting bribes for political influence.

Many prominent New Jersey Democrats, including Governor Phil Murphy and other members of the state's congressional delegation, have called for Menendez's resignation, citing the seriousness of the charges.

Senator Menendez, however, made it clear in a statement that he does not intend to resign. He emphasized the principle of "innocence until proven guilty" and his intention to continue serving the people of New Jersey.

This isn't the first time Senator Menendez has faced legal issues. In 2015, he was charged with conspiracy, bribery, and honest services fraud, resulting in a mistrial in 2017. His legal history is now a central topic in the upcoming Senate race.
